    The Adventist University of Health Sciences Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences degree is designed to prepare graduates for the practice of radiography in the rapidly changing health care environment. Our graduates are prepared to enter the workforce as radiologic science professionals who understand the conceptual framework for the provision of health services and successfully meet the demands of supervisory and management positions of radiography departments.


While diagnostic radiologists are required to go to medical school in order to practice in the United States, they rely on technicians and other healthcare professionals to support them. Radiologic technologists, or radiographers, are required to have a certificate, associate’s, or bachelor’s degree that is accredited by The Joint Review Committee on Education of Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). In these programs, students receive hands-on training and learn about the science, history, and regulations of radiology. They must then pass an exam to earn American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) certification, which is considered the industry standard in the US and required for licensure in many states. Certification for “limited scope” practice is available after just a few weeks’ study of certain equipment and/or areas of the body. However, candidates who are trained to use the widest variety of diagnostic imaging procedures will have the best prospects in the job market.

Online Radiology Degrees

Radiological Scientists can specialize in mammography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), cardiac interventional radiography (CI), vascular interventional radiography (VI), and diagnostic medical ultrasonography (U/S). Each specialty has its own accreditation and educational requirements. Students obtaining the degree can become registered radiographers, or take additional credit hours to specialize in a particular field. To obtain the Bachelors Degree, students are required to obtain hands on experience in the form of Clinics and/or Clinical Internships. Depending on the program, anywhere from 10 credit hours to more than 30 credit hours are required. These credit hours may be spent doing internships at doctors offices, hospitals, mobile imaging companies, industrial research centers, government agencies, and/or in labs at the degree-granting institution. Students may also be required to pass National Board Exams to become certified as a Skilled Technologist and/or to obtain necessary state licensing. The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is the national examining board for Radiologic Technologists.
